Social Justice Programming

Programming

UMEC hosts regular co-curricular programs that focus on a social justice issue and highlights the experiences of historically underrepresented and traditionally marginalized communities. Our programs fall within three different themes:

Multiple Lens Film Series — Multiple Lens Film Series presents a series of short and feature-length documentaries and films that narratives focus on social change to show how filmmaking can be used as a tool to bring social change. Past films we have shown include The Hate U Give, 13th, Dolores, and American Revolutionary: The Evolution of Grace Lee Boggs.

F.O.M.O. —Faith Overcomes Marginal Oppression is a multicultural celebration where we embrace our cultural differences that make up our shared communities through the lens of ecology and social justice while enjoying free food, fun, music, games, and much more!

Male Allyship Series- A series of panel discussions on the individual perspectives of male allyship and the lived experiences that have shaped their lives. Learn of the intentional and active work they are doing as allies and how it has brought value to the world we all are navigating.

Signature Programs

Diversity Monologues -  Student performers share personal and poetic stories from their cultural lenses that stirs the audience to reflect upon the human experience.
