Academic Wellness Resources for Student Athletes
In addition to information provided by the University about ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ’s Academic Integrity Policy (listed below), ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ Athletics provides supplementary education including a video with the Athletic Director and Faculty Athletics Representative, an assessment on some of the key components of the policy and how violations could impact their NCAA eligibility, as well as examples of potential violations during Team Meetings each semester.
As a 1-credit course required for all freshmen student-athletes in their first semester, EDPE works to establish strong personal, social and academic habits that will ultimately lead to success for our student-athletes. One night each week, student-athletes are required to attend the EDPE 195 class for workshop material and community building. Each freshman meets weekly with a member of the Academics Services staff to ensure that the transition to ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ University, and the life of a Division I student-athlete, is a positive one. We hope these early relationships provide a strong foundation for the rest of their time at ÌÇÐÄÊÓƵ, encouraging personal development, independence and the tools they will need to be successful along the way. In addition to the weekly workshops and meetings with an Academic Services staff member, student-athletes are asked to complete a Library Hours component each week. This is time built into the course that allows student-athletes to become more familiar with Foley Library, its resources, and helps structure a dedicated time each week to facilitate time management skill development (and, of course, completion of assignments and building good study habits during their first semester).
Available to all students, the Learning Studio also provides one-on-one drop in tutoring across high-need subjects. LSM also offers academic coaching and provides information on Departmental Tutoring.
An all-encompassing resource for students, the Office of the Registrar provides valuable information regarding graduation requirements, transcripts, course offerings as it relates to registration and can serve as a link to other valuable offices across campus such as Student Accounts and Financial Aid.
In conjunction with primary advisors within their major, as well as their Academic Coordinator, student-athletes receive support in arranging their class schedules each semester ahead of registration. Videos and tutorials are provided by the Office of the Registrar to help make the process as smooth as possible each semester.
Student-athletes have access to peer tutors hired by the Athletic Department for a variety of subjects. Student-athletes are paired with a tutor to meet one-on-one throughout the semester to go through content review, test preparation, in addition to general organizational and study strategies.
